Why containers shine in hurricane country

A shipping container is built to sit on a ship’s deck through Atlantic storms: welded Corten steel, marine door seals, and a frame that stacks nine-high loaded. On the ground, an empty 20ft weighs ~4,850 lb and a loaded one is effectively immovable. Wind-borne debris that shreds sheds bounces off.
